Ai and its usage within Education

I'm someone who often doesn't talk on issues around a.i, nor anything surrounding a.i in regards to artwork, but I had a curious conversation with my sister regarding the usage of ai in her education. My sister is under the age of 16, in her most influential of years really, where she must learn basic Math, English, and Sciences. So, somebody tell me why on earth she's being taught how to use ai in Design and ai in History?

As many know about me, I am an artist. I learnt all the skills I have now by myself, and have been teaching myself constantly since I was around 10 or so. My ideas when it comes to any project is "I will learn how to do this myself if I cannot pay somebody to do this for me." Hell, I even learnt how to use an editing software to make my own animations because I craved a new project to do, a new thing to learn. I could've easily asked ai to do it, but I believe that not only does it harm the environment around me, it very much puts my integrity as an artist into question.

All that is to say I am very much against generative a.i, and am very proud to produce my work as a work I trained my brain and hands to make, rather than some machine. I'm sure we've all heard of the Time article commenting on the research with a.i and the human brain, it surprises me not a lot. A.i does take away much of the human part of research, and the task of actually making your brain value and compare different items altogether. There's probably somebody who asked Chat GPT for baby name ideas. But, in light of this specific article, I wonder why teachers use a.i?

This is mainly spurred on by my sister calling me today, to tell me that her History teacher was using ai images and wanted praise for generating a.i images (apparently.) One thing about my sister is, that like me, she also does not support generative a.i. So she was annoyed sufficed to say. Her friend was also annoyed, mainly because they both care for the environment. I told her my honest thoughts in return, I think any teacher using any level of a.i for any amount of work, whether it be images or layouts or lesson plans or even notes are lazy. It speaks to me that they would rather let a machine do all the talking rather than be proud of any of the work they're doing. You may say "Mubinna it's just some images" to that I would say how hard is it to google a portrait of Anne Boleyn? Y'know, one of Henry VII's wives renowned for her wit and beauty? Do you think there would be any shortage of media surrounding her? I don't think so personally.

Then there's the subject of Design she's taking. Her teacher makes her use a.i for logo branding. Not teach her what makes a good logo, no, we're teaching the youth to rely on a.i instead of develop their own possible brand identities. Since when did everything in design have to be as soul less as this? It's worth the time to teach these people design lessons, or they'll end up having 0 knowledge around anything. This was a link I clicked on reading the Time article also. Double the amount of teenagers are using Chat GPT for schoolwork, I ask you to whoever reads this, are we teaching children the basic skills they need in life or are we teaching them learned helplessness unless they have a machine? We didn't get Leonardo DaVinci by relying on a machine. No, that man went and dissected multiple courses for the love of learning and art. Granted technology these days mean we don't need to do that, that's too much even for me. But, I think we still need to use our brains as people. We have created a machine that will get smarter than us, because we teach our youth to rely on it.

Speaking of relying on a.i, has anyone seen that woman on Tiktok who claimed her therapist was a narcissistic man who was emotionally abusing her? I'm sure that woman used Chat GPT and now believes she's some sort of sage? Or maybe, if you were deeper into drama Youtube niches like I was some years ago, you've heard of that predator catcher Youtuber who used Chat GPT as a lawyer. Remember that? I do. Damn, how time flies.

I bet in 5 years I'll be seeing research articles on how kids are getting dumber and dumber, I mean, from 2023 we have 40% of children in America being described as a non-reader. People can do whatever they wish, I'll attempt to teach my sister the satisfaction of hard work. I hope she's not dimmed by the laziness of her teachers.
